At Blue Skies Farm, Equine Assisted Learning(EAL) is working with horses on the ground through various obstacles to achieve a specific objective.
No riding is involved and no prior horse experience is needed.
Our EAL program is a hands-on, self-guided and self-evaluated experience which has proven to be an effective approach to human development that encourages individual and team growth.
The learning that happens in the arena while working with the horses is paralleled to every day life.
These are skills that are remembered and applied in all areas of their lives to empower and help move them forward.
"Horses carry the wisdom of healing in their hearts and offer it to any human who possesses the humility to listen."
-- Unknown --
Horses have keen instincts and senses which keep them aware of their environment and that is why they have survived in the wild for so long. Horses instantly and honestly react
to whatever stimulus is provided by clients, but without judgment. They can sense if we are feeling happy, sad or frustrated. They offer a beautiful, quiet strength that reminds us to keep trying and never give up.
Learning to listen to what the horse has to say is so powerful and can often spur the answer to cause a much needed change or shift.
THE HORSE, OF COURSE!
IT CAN BE!
Horse Therapy describes any experience with a horse that helps humans relieve tension, stress and worry. This may include riding lessons,
grooming horses, EAL or even mucking stalls!
It is important to note that EAL does NOT generally include working with a licensed therapist, psychologist or social worker. If you or your child is under the care of a licensed therapist, we recommend continuing under his/her care while adding EAL programs here at Blue Skies Farm for your overall health and well-being.
All of our EAL programs are facilitated by Erika Dertien, a horse professional and certified facilitator from the Equine Connection: The Academy of Equine Assisted Learning, in Calgary, Alberta. Erika feels very blessed to be able to combine her passion of working with horses with her love of helping people.
The horses are the therapists!
